Dr. Erik Auf der Heide
Dr.
Auf der Heide received his medical degree from Baylor College
of Medicine and completed his residency in emergency medicine
at Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio. He is board certified
in emergency medicine and a Fellow of the American College of
Emergency Physicians. He completed a fellowship in disaster
medicine co-sponsored by the Division of Emergency Medicine
at Emory University School of medicine; the Rollins School of
Public Health at Emory University; and the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention. Simultaneously, he earned his Masters
Degree in Public Health with specialization in epidemiology.
He
has served as a member of the Disaster Section of the American
College of Emergency Physicians; the Committee on Healthcare
Safety of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations; the National Academy of Sciences Committee for
Oversight and Assessment of Blast Effects and Related Research;
the Technical Advisory Committee of the Emergency Management
Strategic Healthcare Group of the Veterans Health Administration;
the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services - Funded National
Consensus Panel to Develop Evidence-Based Guidelines for the
Treatment of Weapons of Mass Destruction Victims; and numerous
other disaster and emergency medical services organizations.
He has experience as a practicing emergency physician, ambulance
crew member, life guard, mountain rescue team leader, National
Ski Patrol physician, base hospital paramedic director, and
the medical director of a 7 county emergency medical services
agency. In addition he has taught and lectured extensively about
disaster preparedness, both nationally and internationally.
Currently, Dr. Auf der Heide serves as a Medical Officer for
the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services, Atlanta, Georgia.
